UFC Tampa Preview Covington vs. Buckley

As reported by cbssports.com, the top two 10 UFC welterweights battle it out this Saturday night in Tampa, Florida at the Amalie Arena around 10 p.m. EST between sixth-ranked Colby “Chaos” Covington and ninth-ranked Joaquin “New Mansa” Buckley.

Colby Covington is coming off a loss by unanimous decision last December against Leon Edwards for the welterweight championship after winning his first interim welterweight championship in June of 2018. Later, he was stripped of his championship because of a nose injury.

Covington began fighting in UFC in August of 2014. His record is 17-4-0. According to mmamania.com, Dana White was asked about Covington at media day for UFC Tampa. White said, “Chaos” looked “old” and “slow.”  Covington chimed in saying, “I know I’m still an elite welterweight.”

On the other side of the octagon, Joaquin Buckley hasn’t been stopped yet. He has won his last five fights in the welterweight division dating back to May 2023. Buckley joined UFC in August 2020. In 26 career matches, his record is 20-6-0.

Analysts and bettors in Las Vegas have pegged Covington as the underdog for this matchup. According to Sportsline’s Daniel Vithlani, Buckley is the favorite by -230, Covington is the underdog by +190.

It will be fascinating to see if Buckley can continue to be undefeated or will Covington prove the doubters wrong in this match.

The Fight will be available on ESPN+ to stream.
