  • When: November 27, 2024
  • Who: Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Alabama Crimson Tide
  • Time:  7:00 p.m. PST
  • Where: T-Mobile Arena (Las Vegas, NV)

Las Vegas is set to become the hub of college basketball as the unique Name, Image and Likeness Players Era Festival tournament is in town.

This exciting three-day multi-team event will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will feature some of the nation’s top programs, including Alabama, Houston, Creighton, San Diego State, Texas A&M, and Oregon. Additionally, Rutgers and Notre Dame will round out the competitive eight-team lineup.

Yesterday we saw several exciting games in the tournament. Alabama defeating Houston and Rutgers outlasting Notre Dame sets up today’s matchup.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights

The betting dynamics for this matchup are intriguing. Many analysts might argue that Alabama is significantly stronger than Rutgers, potentially by more than 11.5 points.

However, Alabama just came off a taxing overtime game against a solid Houston Cougars team, which could affect their performance going into this game. The Tide may struggle with fatigue and not play at their usual level.

On the other hand, Rutgers sees this as a golden opportunity to secure a resume-building win after a recent loss. They might come into this game with more energy and motivation.

This explains why the spread is set at just 11.5 points, rather than something higher like 14.5 or 15.5. Rutgers has the potential to keep it close, even if they lose by 11, as they could still cover the spread.

If Alabama shows signs of exhaustion during the game, it could allow Rutgers to stick around and potentially benefit bettors.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama secured a significant victory against Houston on Tuesday.

Although the Crimson Tide found themselves behind for much of the game and were down by four with under three minutes left, they fought hard and managed to push the game into overtime.

In crucial moments, Alabama stepped up its defense, effectively shutting down Houston’s offense.

While they had some difficulties containing Houston’s star player, LJ Cryer, the rest of the Cougars’ lineup failed to capitalize on their opportunities, particularly when it was most critical.

In Alabama’s recent win over Illinois, guard Mark Sears had little impact on the game. Coach Nate Oats wanted him back in the second half, but Sears chose to let the younger players who were excelling stay on the court.

This decision showcased his maturity and awareness of the team’s needs, despite his own struggles. He rebounded impressively against Houston, scoring 24 points and becoming the key player the Tide needed for a Final Four run.

Securing victories over Illinois and Houston has solidified Alabama’s status as a strong contender after a loss to Purdue.

Alabama’s next opponent, Rutgers, also won in overtime against Notre Dame, 85-84, in a closely-fought battle. This victory was crucial for Rutgers, which had recently lost to Kennesaw State.

Now, they need a significant win to enhance their resume and offset that loss, presenting a major opportunity ahead.

Scarlet Knights-Crimson Tide Best Bet

Both teams have the ability to score plenty of points, and with the total set at 162, the sportsbooks are anticipating a high-scoring affair.

While Alabama’s offense might not be dominating statistically, it has been effective against stronger teams. After their significant victory, Rutgers may be at risk of a letdown. Look for Alabama’s potent offense to shine in what promises to be a fast-paced clash.

I would back Alabama on the spread here at -11.5 points at -115 odds at BetMGM.
