- What: MLB National League Championship Series Game
- When: October 14, 2024
- Who: New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
- Time: 1:08 p.m. PST
- Where: Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles, CA)
The Los Angeles Dodgers will play the New York Mets on Monday afternoon in the second National League Championship Series game.
New York Mets
The Mets struggled offensively in the first game, falling behind early and finding themselves in a tough spot. Jack Flaherty pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits.
Francisco Lindor, Mark Vientos, Brandon Nimmo, and Pete Alonso collectively went 0 for 10 in the game, failing to make an impact.
Sean Manaea gets the start and will need to avoid the same mistakes that Senga made in the first game to give the Mets a chance to win. Senga only lasted through 10 hitters, and Manaea must do better.

The Mets attempted to trick the Dodgers into swinging at bad pitches, but it didn’t work as it did against the Philadelphia Phillies. David Peterson also struggled, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits through 2 1/3 innings.
With Peterson unavailable for this game, there will be more pressure on Manaea and the bullpen.
The good news for the Mets lineup is they have hit Walker Buehler well in his career. Buehler has a 5.00 ERA against the Mets. The Mets were undefeated in the playoffs when scoring four or more runs, boasting a 6-0 record.
Additionally, they have a perfect 5-0 record when allowing three or fewer runs.
Dodgers
However, the Dodgers have had the upper hand against Manaea, who has a 1-5 record and a 7.09 ERA over 11 career games against them.
In the playoffs, the Dodgers have a 2-1 record when they score first. In the first game, the Dodgers took the lead, which boosted their momentum.
Senga’s three consecutive walks set up Max Muncy to drive in two runs, and the Dodgers’ patience at the plate, a consistent trait in the postseason, helped them take the early lead.
Shohei Ohtani continued his impressive performance by driving in a run for the Dodgers, providing some extra insurance. Ohtani went 2 for 4 in the game and has a batting average of .250 with one home run, five RBIs, and four runs in six postseason games.

Following Flaherty’s strong performance in the first game, it seems like the Dodgers are leaning towards using a bullpen strategy in the second game.
What was once a major concern heading into the postseason has now become a significant strength, as every bullpen pitcher has been in top form.
This has given Roberts the confidence to rely on the bullpen strategy rather than depending on another starting pitcher. His approach has been effective throughout the postseason, with the team pitching 32 consecutive shutout innings.
Mets-Dodgers Best Bet
The Dodgers have been on an incredible run these past three games. The bullpen pitching strategy has completely shut down the Padres twice and the Mets last game.
It doesn’t seem feasible that they should be able to keep this up, especially with against the best lineups in the league. This Mets team should be able to bounce back in today’s matchup.
The total is at 8 runs and that seems about right, I doubt we get another high-scoring game. I’m gonna steer clear of the total and back the underdog Mets in this one.
The Mets to win on the moneyline is priced at +130 and this seems like a mistake by the oddsmakers. The have been a resilent team the past month and they should even this series today.
The Mets on the moneyline at +130 odds is the best bet in this one.
Can the Mets magical run continue against the favored Dodgers?
