A’ja Wilson makes history in Aces win against the Fever

A’ja Wilson led the Aces with 27 points and 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals in their 86-75 win against the Fever. With the win, the Aces improve to 23-13, while the Fever fall to 19-18.

Aces Fever

Indiana would open the game on a 5-0 run, prompting a Becky Hammon timeout 30 seconds in. The early timeout worked as the Aces began to lock in, with A’ja Wilson scoring 10 consecutive points for the Aces. After one quarter of play, Vegas led 20-18, while the Fever cooled off, finishing the quarter 7-21 after opening 3-3.

The Aces bench would make the difference in the first half, with Alysha Clark hitting back-to-back threes late in the second quarter to put the Aces up 12 points, 39-27. A’ja Wilson broke the single-season scoring mark with a jumpshot late in the second quarter. At halftime, the Aces led 41-32, with 20 points from their bench to the Fevers 5.

The third quarter would be rough on both sides, with 12 total team fouls, matching the number of fouls in the first half. The stars would struggle through the first three quarters, with Clark shooting 4-16 and Wilson 7-21. Vegas led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter, but the Fever cut their deficit to 7, 64-57, at the conclusion of three quarters.

A’ja Wilson heats up in the fourth quarter, shooting 4-7 and scoring 11 of her 27 points. Kiah Stokes three-pointer gave the Aces a 12-point lead in the quarter. Indiana would close the gap to single digits late, but it would not be enough as an Alysha Clark dagger three sealed the game.

Four Aces scored in double digits, led by A’ja Wilson, who had 27 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Wilson set the single-season scoring record with a jumper in the second quarter, giving her 941 points and counting.

Alysha Clark was huge off the bench for the Aces finishing with 14 points and 4 rebounds going 4-6 from three. Tiffany Hayes also had a tremendous game, ending with 12 points and hitting three three-pointers.

Chelsea Gray scored 11 points to round out the double figure scoring to go along with 2 steals and 2 blocks. Sydney Colson made a significant impact off the bench, ending at +19.

Kelsey Mitchell lead the Fever with 24 points, going 9-19 from the field and 4-7 from three. Caitlin Clark ended with 16 points, rounding out the double-digit scoring, but she had to fight hard for every point. Clark ended with 6-22 from the field and 1-10 from three.

These two teams will face off again on Friday, with tip-off at 4.30 p.m. and the game aired live by ION.
