Can the Liberty keep rolling to wins against the Wings?

  • What: WNBA Regular Season Game
  • When: Tuesday, August 20
  • Who: Dallas Wings vs. New York Liberty
  • Time: 7:00 p.m. ET
  • Where: Barclays Arena (Brooklyn, NY)

The Dallas Wings and New York Liberty will play at Barclays Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, the first of two back-to-back games.

Dallas Wings

The point spread for this game is quite large, indicating that Dallas is unlikely to win outright. However, the Wings have shown resilience in several challenging road games this season.

For instance, during a road trip to Connecticut, the Wings held a three-point lead inside the final three minutes of regulation before narrowly losing.

If they can perform well against the Sun on the road, they are capable of doing the same against the Liberty.

Dallas may not be a consistently strong team, but the Wings, who defeated Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever just before the Olympic break, have had their moments and pulled off a few upsets this season.

Even if they don’t secure a win, they will likely keep this game closer than the spread of 12 to 13 points.

New York Liberty

The Liberty have covered six straight games against the spread and by an average of 11.1 points per game compared to bookmakers’ expectations.

Four of those did come before a monthlong break for the Olympics, though, of course, Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart starred in Paris.

The two games that came after the Olympics may be the most convincing evidence that New York has raised its game.

Going on the road to Los Angeles as 11-point favorites just days after Ionescu and Stewart won gold, the Liberty did not blink.

They won by 35 points. Life does not get much easier.

Two days later, on the road against their biggest rival, New York controlled the entire second half against Las Vegas, winning by 12 despite being a 3.5-point underdog.

The Liberty have only one goal left ahead of them. They have clinched a playoff spot. Their two biggest stars won gold medals. All that is left is winning an elusive WNBA championship.

New York looks dialed in. There may not be a spread big enough tonight to scare us off backing the Liberty, not that getting this at the best number won’t increase confidence all the same.

Wings-Liberty Best Bet

The New York Liberty leads the WNBA with a net rating of plus-13.1 and an average scoring margin of plus-10.1.

They have the best offense and the second-best defense in the league. The Liberty has been dominating, winning 23 out of 27 games, including six consecutive victories and four of their last five wins by a margin of at least 12 points.

Their recent impressive victories include a 35-point win over the Los Angeles Sparks, and a 12-point road win against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces.

Take the Liberty to win this with ease and cover the 14-point spread.

Can the Aces return to their winning ways against the Sparks?
