© Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports
  • What: MLB Regular Season Game
  • When: Sunday, August 18
  • Who: San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland Athletics
  • Time: 4:00 p.m. ET
  • Where: Oakland Coliseum (Oakland, CA)

This Sunday marks the final meeting between the Giants and the Oakland A’s as neighbors. The game will take place as the Giants cross the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to face the A’s at the Coliseum.

The A’s plan to leave their longtime home at the Coliseum, where they’ve played since 1968, and move 80 miles to Sacramento for three seasons while their new stadium is being built in Las Vegas.

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants will start Blake Snell on Sunday afternoon. Snell has been performing well, including 6.1 scoreless innings against the Braves in his recent outing.

Despite his strong performance, the Giants lost that game, and Snell received a no-decision.

He has been dominant overall, allowing only five runs in his last 33.1 innings pitched and maintaining a 3.91 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP.

However, his record is 2-3 in 69 innings of work this year. Against Oakland, he has a 4.62 ERA and a 2-1 record in 25.1 innings.

The Giants are currently three games out in the wildcard race and have won three of their last four series, including a win against Detroit.

Nonetheless, they were defeated by the Braves, scoring only 11 runs and allowing 18 runs in four games. The Giants have struggled on the road, with a record of nine games below .500.

Matt Chapman of the Athletics has been performing well, with 13 RBIs and a .960 OPS this month. Overall, he has 19 home runs, 61 RBIs, and a .780 OPS this season.

However, this season, he has zero RBIs and a .620 OPS against the Giants.

The Giants are averaging 4.35 runs per game, ranking 15th, while their pitching staff has a 4.25 ERA, placing them 21st.

Oakland Athletics

The Athletics will start JP Sears on the mound. In his last game, Sears allowed only three runs in seven innings against the Blue Jays and secured the win.

He has been performing well lately, giving up just four runs in his last 21 innings. Over the season, Sears has a 4.32 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and a 10-8 record in 133.1 innings pitched.

Notably, during their only meeting, he threw seven scoreless innings against the Giants in July.

Oakland’s offensive consistency has driven their competitiveness. They recently secured a series win on the road against the Blue Jays and won two out of three road games against the Mets, showcasing a strong offensive performance.

The Athletics have a solid home record, standing just one game below .500.

Brent Rooker has been a standout player, with six RBIs and an impressive .910 OPS this month.

He’s having a breakout season with 29 home runs, 83 RBIs, and a .950 OPS. Against the Giants, Rooker has contributed two RBIs and maintained a solid .821 OPS.

Oakland is scoring an average of 4.08 runs per game, ranking 25th in the league. On the pitching side, the team has a 4.35 ERA, which positions them at 24th.

Giants-A’s Best Bet

The San Francisco Giants have hit a rough patch lately, with a 1-4 record in their last five games.

On the other hand, the Oakland Athletics have been performing well, winning three consecutive series, including a notable series victory against the Mets.

They have secured victories in six of their last ten games leading up to Saturday evening.

In addition, Giants pitcher Blake Snell has struggled against the Athletics, posting a 4.62 ERA in 25.1 career innings.

Meanwhile, A’s pitcher JP Sears has been impressive, allowing only four runs in his last 21 innings. The A’s have emerged victorious in five of his recent appearances.

I’d take the A’s on the moneyline in this one.
