The Netherlands aim to reach the final for only the second time in their history when they face England on Wednesday at BVB Stadium Dortmund in the UEFA Euro 2024 semifinals.
This marks the Netherlands’ sixth appearance in the semifinals out of their 11 tournament participations.

Still, they have advanced to the final just once—achieving the feat in 1988 when they defeated the Soviet Union 2-0 to claim their only championship.
England, meanwhile, had their first chance at the title in 2020 but fell to Italy in a penalty shootout.
England
The Three Lions have relied on strong defensive play to reach the semifinals. They scored only twice during the group stage before netting three goals in their two knockout-round matches.
Impressively, the team has conceded just three times over its five Euro 2024 contests.
Since their 6-2 victory over Iran in the 2022 World Cup group-stage opener, England has allowed only 14 goals in 23 games across all competitions, maintaining 11 clean sheets during that period.

Midfielder Jude Bellingham and striker Harry Kane have been pivotal, combining for four of England’s five goals in this tournament.
The 21-year-old Bellingham scored in the 1-0 group-stage win against Serbia, while Kane found the net in the 1-1 draw with Denmark.
Both players scored in the 2-1 victory over Slovakia in the Round of 16. Kane, 30, who led Bayern Munich with 36 goals in the 2023-24 season, is England’s all-time top scorer with 65 goals.
Netherlands
The Dutch have been strong offensively in Euro 2024, scoring nine goals in their five matches.
They are the only team in the tournament to have netted at least two goals in four contests, with the only exception being their 0-0 draw with France in the group stage.
Notably, the Netherlands are also the only squad in the competition that has twice come back to win after conceding the match’s first goal.

Cody Gakpo is one of the tournament’s top-scoring threats.
The 25-year-old winger is tied with four others for the lead in Euro 2024 with three goals, bringing his total to 12 in 29 career matches for the national team.
Donyell Malen is second on the team with two goals, having scored a brace in the 3-0 win against Romania in the Round of 16.
Fellow forward Memphis Depay, striker Wout Weghorst, and defender Stefan de Vrij have also found the net.
The 30-year-old Depay ranks second on the Netherlands’ all-time list with 46 international goals, just four behind Robin van Persie.
England-Netherlands Best Bet
These countries have not faced each other in a major tournament since England’s 4-1 victory in the group stage of Euro 1996.
It’s been long since they last met in a highly competitive match.
In recent tournaments, England has displayed a similar ability to France in staying alive and advancing despite average performances.
England’s top players have shown their knack for coming through when it matters most, as seen with Jude Bellingham in the Round of 16 and Bukayo Saka in the quarterfinal against Switzerland.
While the Netherlands has also been impressive, England’s experience in big tournaments will give them the edge. I’d take England to advance at -120 odds.
