Not long after Ryan Garcia’s (25-1, 20 KOs) upset win against Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) on Saturday at the Barclays Center, Garcia made a few comments about his future. He said after the fight that he is not interested in rematching Haney and also said that he won’t fight Gervonta “Tank” Davis because he wont be around at 140 because his body can’t make that weight. He said that he’ll be moving up to 147. Garcia has called out IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis(31-0-1, 28KO’s).

Ennis got an unexpected gift with this news. Boots undoubtedly is having a very hard time trying to get a big name fight. He’s called out both Errol Spence Jr. and Terrance Crawford multiple times. All times falling short is frustrating but nevertheless, Ennis is known as one of the most avoided boxers in the sport. But it looks like Ennis accepts the challenge based off of his response on social media saying “He’s food”.
It’s safe to say that Garcia will have all of the leverage in negotiations so striking a deal for this fight shouldn’t be hard. Most likely this will be a fight that’ll happen in Vegas. Expect a fight between these two hard hitting punchers to not go the distance. Is Garcia biting off more than he can chew by challenging Ennis? Boots hasn’t fought anyone the caliber of Garcia so this bout has some interesting dynamics. The promotion will be very entertaining and carried by Garcia.
