The Las Vegas Aces are on the precipice of history.
Over the past few years, the franchise has emerged as the gold standard in the WNBA. The Aces have won three WNBA championships in four years, which has cemented them as one of the league’s best teams.
With the franchise’s sustained success in Las Vegas, chatter about whether the organization is a dynasty has grown louder.
Dynasty talks for the Aces
It is a conversation that has followed this franchise in recent years, and one the players are not ignoring.
Speaking to the media earlier this week, All-Star shooting guard Jackie Young acknowledged the noise surrounding the team’s legacy.
“We hear a lot of talk about that,” Young said. “You know, and that comes with winning, you know, three-in-four. I mean, we were drafted here, you know, A’ja Wilson and I were drafted here. Obviously, Kelsey Plum was drafted here, just figuring it out and working toward winning. Obviously, we didn’t come in here as a top team and just kind of worked our way up to that. And, you know, kind of just being the standard.”
Young, who signed a one-year deal with the Aces, has remained a pivotal part of the team over the past few years. Last season, she averaged 16.5 points, 5.1 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
Her comments highlight the culture of winning the team has built since her and A’ja Wilson’s arrival.
Are the Aces a dynasty?
The WNBA has seen its share of great teams throughout its history. Still, the Aces have put themselves in the conversation.
Led by two-time MVP A’ja Wilson, the franchise has continued to dominate, setting the standard across the league. The Aces also boast one of the deeper teams in the league, with multiple All-Stars playing alongside Wilson.
This season, they have a chance to add to their growing legacy and further cement their case as one of the WNBA’s greatest dynasties.
