A’s pitching depth starts with Severino in Toronto

A’s pitching depth is the bet behind Luis Severino as the Opening Day starter in Toronto. The Athletics are built to spread innings and survive the grind.

Luis Severino will set the tone Friday night in Toronto. The Athletics already named him their Opening Day starter, making him the first A’s pitcher to draw back-to-back Opening Day assignments since Kendall Graveman in 2017 and 2018. That part is simple. The harder question, and the more important one for this club, is whether the rest of the staff can turn depth into something sturdier than a nice spring talking point.

That is where this group gets interesting.
