Vegas Golden Knights Sign Forward Alex Weiermair to Three-Year, Entry-Level Contract
Weiermair leads the Portland Winterhawks with 75 points (32 G, 43 A) through 57 games in the WHL
The Golden Knights signed forward Alex Weiermair to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team said Sunday.
Weiermair, 20, has been one of the Western Hockey League’s most productive forwards this season. He leads the Portland Winterhawks with 75 points on 32 goals and 43 assists through 57 games.
A scoring touch in Portland
Weiermair is in his second WHL season, and the production has continued to climb. Last season, he posted 46 points (21 goals, 25 assists) in 41 regular-season games.
He also delivered in the 2025 postseason. Weiermair ranked fourth on Portland with 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 18 playoff games as the Winterhawks reached the WHL Western Conference Final. Those 23 points were the 11th most among WHL skaters in that postseason.
From Denver to the draft pick
Before Portland, Weiermair spent parts of two seasons with the University of Denver. He skated in 33 games and recorded eight points (three goals, five assists).
He was part of Denver’s NCAA championship team in 2023-24. That experience matters for a prospect who is now stepping into the early stages of pro hockey.
Weiermair also played for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. He totaled 49 points (25 goals, 24 assists) in 107 games across the Under-17 and Under-18 levels.
Vegas selected Weiermair in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. He then attended the organization’s development camp.

His 2025-26 scoring line with Portland jumps off the page. So does the size, which is already NHL-ready from a frame standpoint.
For Vegas, this is the kind of bet teams like to make in the later rounds: a bigger winger who can score and has shown he can produce when the games tighten up.
Up next
The Golden Knights continue their road trip Sunday with a morning matchup in Pittsburgh. Vegas (28-17-14) faces the Penguins (30-15-13) at PPG Paints Arena, with puck drop set for 10:00 a.m. PT.
The game will air on TNT and stream on HBO Max.
