Amanda Serrano has never been one to wait for opportunity she creates it. Just ten days after successfully defending her featherweight title, Amanda Serrano publicly offered to step in and face former two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes after it was revealed that UFC bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison was forced to withdraw from their scheduled superfight due to neck surgery.

“If UFC and Amanda Nunes are thinking of a replacement, I would love the challenge as I’m still in fight shape,” Serrano wrote on social media. “Hope the champ (Harrison) recovers well.”

Harrison vs. Nunes was slated for January 24 at T-Mobile Arena, serving as the co-main event of the UFC’s first show under its new Paramount+ broadcast deal. With Harrison sidelined, the UFC has yet to announce a replacement but Serrano’s name has immediately turned heads.

A Boxer With Real MMA Credentials

While crossover talk typically flows from MMA to boxing, Serrano is a rare exception. Long before becoming one of the most decorated fighters in boxing history, Serrano competed in mixed martial arts, posting a 2-0-1 MMA record, with both wins coming by submission. She fought twice in 2018 and once again in 2021, proving she’s no stranger to the cage.

Serrano, widely viewed as a future Hall of Famer, boasts a 48-4-1 boxing record with 31 knockouts and world titles across seven divisions an unmatched résumé in women’s boxing.

“This isn’t to disrespect Amanda Nunes,” Serrano said. “I think she’s the greatest of all time in MMA. I also know she has incredible hands and loves to use them. I’ve competed in both MMA and jiu-jitsu. Anyone that has ever done MMA and BJJ has always dreamt of competing on the biggest stages and in the UFC.”

Serrano added that she continues to train in grappling and striking disciplines beyond boxing.

“My nephew Jovan is the captain of his varsity wrestling team, and I train with him a few times a week just to give him extra work. I love kicking, so I never stopped training that either. Much respect to and for ‘The Lioness’ Nunes.”
