Two of boxing’s most recognizable names could finally settle their long-standing feud next year. Sources tell The Ring that Jermall Charlo and Caleb Plant are in advanced talks to meet in a super middleweight showdown in 2026. Both former champions competed on the same PBC card in May a setup designed to build toward a grudge match. Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) looked sharp in his return, stopping Thomas LaManna via sixth-round TKO. Plant (23-3, 14 KOs), however, suffered a surprising decision loss to Jose Armando Resendiz at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, briefly derailing the promotional momentum. Despite Plant’s setback, insiders say the bout remains on track if financial terms can be finalized.

A Rivalry with History

The tension between Charlo and Plant stretches back to July 2023. When the two clashed during Terence Crawford–Errol Spence fight week, culminating in Plant slapping Charlo during a heated confrontation caught on camera. That altercation ignited a rivalry fans have demanded ever since one that may now finally find resolution in the ring. In a related development, The Ring reports that Jose Armando Resendiz is in talks to fight Edgar Berlanga. That matchup could share the stage with Charlo–Plant, creating a high-stakes super middleweight doubleheader.

The Stakes at 168

Charlo, 35, remains unbeaten and is a former titleholder at both junior middleweight and middleweight. Plant, ranked No. 7 by The Ring at 168 pounds. Is a former IBF super middleweight champion who has faced elite opposition including Canelo Álvarez and David Benavidez. If finalized, Charlo vs. Plant would mark a pivotal crossroads bout redemption for Plant, and validation for Charlo as he seeks to reestablish himself as a major force at super middleweight.
