Two action-first contenders are circling a high-octane showdown to open 2026. Sources tell The Ring that Christian Mbilli and Jaime Munguia are in discussions for a super middleweight fight targeted for the first quarter of 2026.

Recent Form & Momentum

  • Christian Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) — The Ring’s No. 3 at 168 is coming off a thrilling draw with Lester Martinez on the Canelo Álvarez–Terence Crawford undercard in September. The 30-year-old Montreal-based pressure fighter has built his reputation on volume, persistence, and heavy hands.

  • Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) — a former titleholder at 154 avenged his shocking KO loss to Bruno Surace with a clear decision win in May in Riyadh. Now 29, the Mexican contender is trained by Eddy Reynoso, the mastermind behind Canelo’s run.

Testing Issue & Clearance

After the Surace rematch, Munguia returned an adverse VADA finding for exogenous testosterone. The British Boxing Board of Control reviewed the matter and cleared him of wrongdoing. Allowing negotiations to proceed without disciplinary overhang.

Styles Make Fights

  • Mbilli: relentless front-foot pressure, compact combinations, body work, and late-round engine; thrives in the pocket and drags foes into attritional fights.

  • Munguia: longer lever punches, improved shot selection under Reynoso, and a proven chin; excels when he establishes tempo behind a busy jab and digs power shots in exchanges.

On paper, this is a high-pace, high-contact matchup: Mbilli’s swarm vs. Munguia’s rangier combinations and big-fight seasoning.

With Canelo’s orbit still defining the division and contenders jockeying beneath, Mbilli–Munguia profiles as a true eliminator-level clash. But a statement win positions the victor for a marquee title shot or a crossover headliner later in 2026.
