The ninth week of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 9 delivered action, finishes, and life-changing moments for several hopefuls. Held Tuesday night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and streamed live on ESPN+, the event featured five bouts across multiple weight classes, as ten fighters battled for the chance to impress UFC CEO Dana White and secure a coveted contract.
By the end of the night, six fighters walked away with UFC deals including an unusual twist that saw one loser earn both a contract and a $25,000 performance bonus.
Main Event: Magomed Zaynukov Dominates to Stay Perfect
In the featured lightweight bout, Magomed Zaynukov (9-0) remained undefeated with a one-sided unanimous decision over Lucas Caldas (6-3). All three judges scored the contest 30-26, as Zaynukov controlled the pace with crisp striking, cage control, and punishing ground work.
While Caldas showed toughness and durability, he was outclassed throughout the fight. Dana White praised Zaynukov’s composure and technical dominance, officially rewarding him with a UFC contract afterward.
Quick Finishers Shine Early
The opening bouts set the tone for an action-packed evening.
-
Luke Fernandez wasted no time making his mark, stopping Rafael Pergentino with punches just 15 seconds into Round 1, one of the fastest knockouts in Contender Series history.
-
Imanol Rodriguez followed up with another emphatic finish, halting Roque Conceicao at 2:12 of Round 1 via TKO.
-
In the lightweight clash that followed, Luis Felipe Dias showcased slick grappling, securing a rear-naked choke victory over Donavon Hedrick late in Round 2 (4:37).
Each of the three finishers Fernandez, Rodriguez, and Dias earned immediate UFC contracts following their performances.
The Battle of the Night: Luna Martinetti vs. Vologdin
The lone fight to go the distance outside the main event was a high-paced war between Adrian Luna Martinetti and Mark Vologdin. Both fighters traded momentum across three rounds, but Luna Martinetti ultimately edged out a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Despite the loss, Dana White shocked viewers by awarding both fighters contracts, praising their relentless effort, grit, and heart inside the cage. Each also received a $25,000 bonus for their performance.
“That’s what this show is all about,” White said. “Sometimes, it’s not just about winning it’s about showing me you belong here.”
