The Aces dominated Game 1 against the Storm, winning 102-77 and extending their streak to 17 games.
A’ja Wilson led with 29 points and eight rebounds. Jackie Young added 18 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Nalyssa Smith nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Jewell Loyd scored 14, hitting three of six from deep.
On the other side, the Storm struggled offensively, with top scorers Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike scoring only 12 and 11 points, respectively. Gabby Williams added 16 points, while Dominique Malonga came off the bench for a double-double.
If Seattle hopes to keep its season alive, Ogwumike and Diggins must step up offensively. Both were All-Stars this season, leading the team with 18.3 and 15.5 points per game, but the Storm will struggle to match Las Vegas’ firepower unless they raise their game.
Building on their offensive advantage, the Aces also capitalized on Seattle’s defensive struggles.
Defensively, Seattle has no answer for Wilson, who’s been unstoppable during this Las Vegas win streak, averaging 26.3 points per game. Even with adjustments and double teams, Wilson’s current form makes her nearly impossible to contain.
With the series now moving to Seattle, the Storm face additional challenges. Despite having home court, they have struggled at home, winning fewer games than they have on the road.
The Aces have covered a 4.5-point spread in 13 of 17 games. I expect Las Vegas to close out the series comfortably.
