Aces receive critical update for Sunday matchup versus Sky

When the Las Vegas Aces take the court on Sunday to face the Chicago Sky, fans will have to wait to see one of the more popular stars of the WNBA.

In a statement shared on social media on Friday, the Sky announced that they have suspended guard Angel Reese for the first half of the Aces game, citing comments that the team deemed “detrimental.”

Reese has already been suspended in the Sky’s game against the Fever on Friday after picking up her eighth technical foul of the season on Wednesday.

The comments in question came after Reese vented her frustrations about the Sky’s season.

“I’m not settling for the same s–t we did this year,” Reese said, per the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.

“I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”

With most WNBA contracts expiring after this season and the league likely waiting until a new collective bargaining agreement is agreed to before conducting any business, the Sky could reasonably get a solid team down for next season.

However, it makes Sunday’s game against the Aces that much more difficult. The Aces are at the peak of their powers right now, proving that point after defeating the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx 97-87 on Thursday for a franchise-record 13th straight win. With no Reese to at least try to serve as a counterbalance to A’ja Wilson, the Aces will have an immediate edge on the boards.

With Reese’s frustrations now public, the Aces can take some advantage early against an opponent they should be expected to beat.
