Former welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) will make his long-anticipated move up to super welterweight when he faces Uisma Lima (14-1, 10 KOs) in a WBA title eliminator on October 11 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The fight will be streamed live on DAZN, Matchroom Boxing announced Monday.

Jaron Ennis who captured the WBA and IBF welterweight titles by stopping Eimantas Stanionis in the sixth round earlier this year, is skipping a title defense to test himself in the 154-pound division. The 27 year old also recently signed a multi-year extension with Matchroom Boxing, signaling his long-term commitment to chasing championships in multiple weight classes.

New weight, new challenges

“They can say what they want, it don’t make me a difference,” Ennis said in a statement. “These dudes can’t tie my shoes. I’m the best in the world and they know it. I want all the big names and belts the tour continues.”

The Philadelphia native will be fighting in front of his hometown crowd, adding extra excitement to an already high stakes matchup.

Lima, a dangerous contender with a solid professional resume. Will look to spoil Ennis’ debut at 154 and secure his own shot at WBA gold.

For Ennis, the bout is the first step toward proving his dominance across multiple divisions and if he wins in style, it could set the stage for blockbuster fights with the top names at super welterweight. A win for Boots could lead to the fight that Boxing fans would love to see. Which will be a potential showdown with Virgil Ortiz.
