UFC 319 is shaping up to be a battle between an immovable object and an unstoppable force. Dricus du Plessis, the reigning UFC middleweight champion, will defend his title against the undefeated juggernaut Khamzat Chimaev in what promises to be one of the year’s most explosive main events.

Du Plessis (23-2) has defied the odds throughout his UFC run, climbing the ranks with a blend of grit, power, and relentless pressure. Now undefeated in the promotion, the South African star faces perhaps his toughest test yet in Chimaev (14-0), who most recently shattered Robert Whittaker’s jaw en route to a dominant win.

Du Plessis is ready!

While many see Chimaev as the unstoppable force, Du Plessis refuses to play the underdog.

“For me, pressure is such a big part of the game,” Du Plessis told Fox 32 Chicago. “If you don’t feel any pressure, then you don’t care enough. For me, the pressure comes from me putting a high expectation on myself.”

The champion’s mental game has been as sharp as his striking. Known for marauding his opponents inside the Octagon, Du Plessis also brings a strategic, composed mindset to what he calls the biggest fight of his life.

“Going back home without it my belt is not an option for me,” he continued. “The pressure is there, not only to win, but to perform to the best of my abilities and be better than the previous outing.”

For Chimaev, UFC 319 marks his long-awaited shot at middleweight gold. For Du Plessis, it’s a chance to silence any remaining doubters and cement his place atop one of the UFC’s most competitive divisions. On August 17 in Chicago, something has to give.
