The Las Vegas Aces will play the New York Liberty for the second time this season, although both teams have been facing some challenges recently.

The Liberty have had a tough time since Jonquel Jones suffered an ankle injury, and they recently experienced a home defeat against the Seattle Storm on Sunday.

Despite their struggles, bookmakers listed the Liberty as five-point favorites following their 14-point victory over the Aces this season.

Las Vegas has had difficulty finding its rhythm in 2025, sitting in the bottom five of the WNBA in both offensive and defensive ratings.

However, following a much-needed victory against the Connecticut Sun, the Aces now hold a record of 9-9 for the season.

The Aces are making a comeback, having won four of their last six games. A concern for New York fans is that A’ja Wilson is performing exceptionally well.

She has scored at least 19 points in her previous seven games, averaging 23.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.2 combined steals and blocks during that stretch.

While she’s on the court, the Aces have outscored their opponents by 36 points. Defensively, teams have shot just 59.8% within five feet of the basket when she’s playing, one of the lowest efficiency rates in the league.

The real question isn’t whether Wilson will perform; it’s if the rest of the team can support her in leading them to victory. Without Wilson this season, the Aces have seen a dramatic drop, being 21.3 points per 100 possessions worse.

In a recent game against the Indiana Fever, which ended in an 81-54 defeat, Wilson managed 29 points on nine-for-18 shooting, while her teammates combined for only 25 points on seven-for-43 shooting (16.3% accuracy).

In their first matchup of the 2025 season, these teams combined for an impressive 170 points.

New York holds the second spot in the WNBA for offensive rating despite experiencing a slight dip in performance with Jones absent from the lineup.

The Liberty boast outstanding offensive talents like Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, while Las Vegas has struggled defensively, surrendering an average of 81.2 points per game this season.

On the defensive side, New York has also declined, slipping from first to third in defensive rating in recent weeks.

Over the past 10 games, the Liberty have ranked 10th in the league for defensive rating—a significant drop from their strong start to the season.

Given that both teams have had trouble covering the spread, I’m anticipating a high-scoring showdown on Tuesday night.
