  • Who:   San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

The San Francisco Giants (45-39) are set to face the Arizona Diamondbacks (41-42) in the opener of a four-game series at Chase Field in Phoenix on Monday at 6:40 p.m. PST.

The Diamondbacks lead the season series 2-1, winning 2 of 3 games in San Francisco in May.

Recently, the Giants struggled offensively against the Chicago White Sox, losing two of three games and scoring only five runs, including a 1-0 shutout.

Rafael Devers, who joined from Boston last month, is hitting just .217 after striking out in all three at-bats in the last game.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are on a four-game losing streak, including a sweep by the Miami Marlins and a recent 7-3 defeat to the White Sox. During this stretch, Arizona’s pitching staff has allowed an average of 7.5 runs per game.

In Sunday’s 6-4 defeat, third baseman Eugenio Suarez contributed significantly, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Meanwhile, second baseman Ketel Marte hit a solo home run, marking his 17th of the season. Outfielder Jake McCarthy also made an impact, recording a triple and an RBI in his four at-bats.

Pitching Matchup

Logan Webb (7-5, 2.52 ERA) will make his 18th start against Ryne Nelson (4-2, 3.71 ERA) in his 8th start.

Webb has a 1.14 WHIP and 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings, having recorded a no-decision in his last outing with two earned runs allowed over six innings in an 8-5 loss to the Marlins.

This season, he is 3-4 with a 3.75 ERA on the road and is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA against the Diamondbacks in 2024.

In contrast, Nelson’s last start was also a no-decision. He allowed 1 earned run over five innings against the White Sox. This season on the road, he is 1-1 with a 5.34 ERA and has a career record of 2-0 with a 3.11 ERA against the Giants.

Betting on the under is the best option for this series opener.

However, proceed with caution, as the Diamondbacks have seen the over hit in their last four games. They allow an average of 7.5 runs per game, with at least six runs scored in each contest.

That said, Arizona’s last game under was during Ryne Nelson’s previous start, a 4-1 victory in Chicago last Tuesday.

Additionally, the under prevailed in all three games played in San Francisco this past weekend, and the Giants’ overall record is 8-4 in the last 12 games.
