The New York Liberty will kick off their WNBA title defense by facing the Las Vegas Aces in their season opener on Saturday at 10 a.m. PST.
These two teams are familiar with each other. Last year, the Liberty avenged their playoff loss to the Aces, knocking them out after falling to them in the WNBA Finals the season before.
New York enters this year as the reigning champion, led by two-time MVP Breanna Stewart and All-Stars Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones, who are eager to secure a championship repeat.
To enhance their roster this season, the Liberty have brought aboard Natasha Cloud, and Marine Johannes makes her return after missing last season to focus on the Olympics.
Meanwhile, the Aces are equally talented with A’ja Wilson and her trio of MVP awards leading the charge, but they lack the same level of continuity.
After struggling to secure a third consecutive title, the Aces traded Kelsey Plum to the Los Angeles Sparks and welcomed six-time All-Star Jewell Loyd, who joins Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray.
While Becky Hammon’s squad is stacked, Loyd may need some time to find her rhythm with Wilson.
New York’s team chemistry will allow them to perform well at home in their season opener.
Last season, the Liberty ranked first in offensive rating (109.6) and third in defensive rating (97.9), whereas the Aces struggled defensively, which ultimately cost them.
Best Bet: Liberty -3.5 points at -110 odds
