After saying throughout the NFL’s Annual League Meeting that they wanted to get a deal done, the Las Vegas Raiders and Geno Smith got their wishes.
On Thursday, it was announced by Ian Rapoport that the Raiders have signed Smith to a two-year contract extension worth $85.5 million, with $66.5 million guaranteed.

Earlier reports suggested that Smith wanted $40-45 million per year in his deal, so his camp must be satisfied with getting what they wanted. While the deal is finalized, how it is structured is yet to be determined. Presumably, however, the deal will come front-loaded with most of the guaranteed money being paid in 2025 and 2026, essentially giving the Raiders a team option for 2027.
Regardless, the Raiders getting this deal done with Smith gives them some clarity on the quarterback situation for at least a little while.
After having one of the league’s worst quarterback rooms last season, the Raiders took the initiative and traded for Smith from the Seattle Seahawks in March. Smith instantly raises the floor of the Raiders, and will provide some much-needed stability under center. It is still expected that the Raiders will look at a quarterback in the draft due to Smith hitting his age-35 season, but this extension guarantees they do not need to reach for one.
The Raiders now hope that Smith can lay the foundation for the Raiders to return to contending in a loaded AFC.
