Former Gamecock hypes up South Carolina in Elite 8 Win

Reigning MVP and Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson couldn’t be more ecstatic that the South Carolina Gamecocks are headed back to the Final Four after clinching a win over the Duke Blue Devils.

Wilson gave her former college team a big shoutout they punched their ticket to the Final Four.

“Final Fo,” Wilson said on Instagram.

Wilson played for the Gamecocks from 2014 to 2018. During her time at Soth Carolina, Wilson was able to lead the team to their first national championship in 2017.

Her legacy as a standout player is highlight throughout South Carolina’s campus. She has been honored by her former college team with a jersey retirement ceremony and a statue erected outside the Colonial Life Arena.

The Gamecocks secured a close but hard-fought victory, 54-50 over Duke in the Elite Eight to move on to their fifth consecutive Final Four appearance.

South Carolina started the game strong, leading 16-10 after the first quarter. In the third quarter, Duke fought back taking a 42-38 lead.

The Gamecocks responded with an impressive run, scoring the first eight points in the fourth quarter to regain control and subsequently close out the game.

As the saying goes, defense wins championships. The Gamecocks’ defense played an important role forcing Duke to make 19 turnovers and holding the Blue Devils to 32% shooting from the floor.
