According secondsout.com, former boxing champion James Toney has a strong opinion about the career of boxing champion Deontay Wilder.
For starters, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has not been in action since suffering back-to-back defeats against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
It is being reported that Wilder is making a return to the ring very soon.
Wilder enjoyed significant success as the WBC heavyweight champion between 2015 and 2020 before he was defeated by Tyson Fury in February 2020. He suffered another defeat at the hands of Fury just 18-months later in their trilogy.
If there’s anybody who thinks that they should have an opinion on Wilder’s career its former boxing champion James Toney.
Toney captured in three different weight classes during his career.
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Toney was claimed that Wilder has failed in his journey as a professional fighter, mentioned that he only knocked out ‘bums’.
Toney expressed his thoughts, saying, “Deontay Wilder and that bomb bulls**t. Everybody was believing in that. I told everyone look who he’s fighting. He fighting bums. If I was fighting them I would have all fights by knockout. The guys he fought I would’ve knocked out in two, three rounds too. They built him up right and then when it was time to come through, he failed. He wasn’t ready. It’s sad seeing what happen to him but it is what it is. Deontay was a one-trick pony.”
There have been calls from many of boxing’s prominent figures for Wilder to retire but seemingly, the 39-year-old has other plans.
