Super Bowl Sunday saw the Las Vegas Raiders embroiled in another fascinating storyline.
The Raiders are one of the most obvious names to hop on the quarterback carousel in 2025, hoping to find the franchise quarterback that has eluded them for a long time.
The top name on the market is Sam Darnold, who will parlay an impressive season with the Minnesota Vikings into a handsome payday next month.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders are being considered as one of the leading contenders for Darnold’s services next season.

After failing to latch on with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers, Darnold signed with the Vikings in the hopes of rejuvenating his stagnant career. While he was initially expected to mentor J.J. McCarthy, plans changed when the rookie went down with a torn meniscus in the preseason.
The former third overall pick in 2018 responded with a career renaissance, helping the Vikings win fourteen games. It stands as the most wins by a quarterback in his first year with a team.
However, a rough ending to the season against the Detroit Lions, followed by a flop in the Wild Card round against the Los Angeles Rams, appear to have convinced the Vikings that staying the course with McCarthy is their best bet.
With the Raiders, Darnold will not have to worry about being placed under high expectations. While he will certainly get paid for his efforts, he will be doing his part to get Las Vegas back into the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
The road back to the postseason will be difficult for the Raiders, who have to deal with three playoff teams (Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos) in their division. The already-trying task would be near impossible if they cannot nail down a proper solution at quarterback.
Darnold is far from perfect, but he stands as the best possible solution for the Raiders’ woes.
