Huge fights rarely happen in boxing these days. We’re getting a early year treat as Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) and Eimantas Stanionis (15-0, 9 KOs) will meet in a welterweight title unification bout April 12 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Ennis and Stanionis are the top two fighters in the welterweight division. Whoever comes out victorious in this matchup will be the king of the 147 pounders. Both fighters have explored fights with Vergil Ortiz but both fights didn’t happen for different reasons. Stanionis was scheduled to fight Ortiz but after multiple delays the fight would end up getting cancelled. Ennis was in negotiations with Ortiz to fight him at 154 pounds for a lucrative offer but the fight did not go through.

Curtain call at 147?
This fight could very well be Ennis’ last fight at 147 but he’s definitely excited to have the opportunity to unify the titles.
“This is the fight I’ve been waiting for,” Ennis said. “I believe I was made for moments like this and on April 12 I will be making a big statement, and you will see the very best of me. It’s time to shine, be great and collect those belts.”
Stanionis has a lot on the line. Defeating Ennis will launch would be huge for him and would launch him into stardom and even more lucrative fights. He plans on taking advantage of this opportunity to make himself a household name.
“This is it: the moment I’ve been envisioning my entire life,” Stanionis said. “Every sacrifice, every ounce of sweat, it’s all been for this fight. Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is a great fighter, but I’m ready to take him down. On April 12 in Atlantic City, I’ll show the world what I’m made of.
“This unification bout is my chance to prove I’m the king of the welterweight division, and there’s no way I’m letting this opportunity slip away. This moment is mine.”
Ennis’ IBF belt and Stanionis WBC belt will be on the line. Ennis will be looking to put on a show for a huge pro Ennis crowd. This fight has the potential to land as one of the best championship matchups of the year.
