The UNLV Lady Rebels fell to San Diego State, suffering their first Mountain West loss this season, 59-58.
They are now 8-1 in Mountain West play.
Macie James led the Lady Rebels, scoring a season-high 13 points – one point shy of tying her career high. James missed only one of her shots from the floor, going 4-for-5 from the floor. James also went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Amarachi Kimpson was the second-leading scorer for the Lady Rebels, scoring 10 points. Alyssa Brown led the Lady Rebels in rebounds with eight. Kiara Jackson led the Lady Rebels with six assists.
Veronica Sheffey led the Aztecs, scoring 16 points. Nat Martinez added 12 points and Naomi Panganiban had 10 points. Cali Clark led the Aztecs with nine rebounds.
The Lady Rebels led for most of the game. The Aztecs came within six, bringing the score to 50-44.
The Aztecs came thundering back, shooting a jump shot and making two free throws, bringing the score to 52-48.
McKinna Brackens pushed the Lady Rebels up to a six-point lead, scoring 54-48 with a shot from the floor.
The Aztecs kept fighting. They came back with a three-pointer and two free throws. The two teams battled back and forth for 40 seconds. San Diego State then tied the game at 57.
Amarachi Kimpson sank a pivotal free-throw with three seconds left in the game.
Sheffey caught the inbound pass and went in for a buzzer-beating lay-up.
The Lady Rebels finally have a bye week this upcoming week. They meet UNR on Saturday at 2 p.m.
