The Las Vegas Aces and the local community helped fill four truckloads full of supplies and donations for Southern California residents affected by wildfires for their Las Vegas Aces’ fire relief drive on Sunday.
Alex Eschelman of KTNV reported that the Aces thought they could only fill one truck with donations from their drive. The community showed up and were able to fill three more U-Haul trucks with donations.
“I’m really impressed,” Aces center Kiah Stokes told KTNV. “I think it’s incredible what this community has done to support us and then take that camaraderie and give it to other communities.”
The Aces have partnered with the LA Sparks to distribute the donations and supplies at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
The Aces headed for Los Angeles on Tuesday to help with the relief effort.
“When there are opportunities for us to rally together and support one another, that’s who we are,” Aces President Nikki Fargas said.
Fans and season ticket holders donated water to the Aces donation drive. The Aces also collected food, diapers, N95 Masks, air purifiers, and many more items that victims need in the wake of the wildfires.
“These people have nothing,” Aces season-ticket holder Tom Williams said in an interview with Estelle Atkinson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Their entire lives are literally evaporated in front of them.”
He donated what he could and volunteered his time to help collect donations from the community at the Aces facility in Henderson, Nev.
