The New York Yankees host the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the 2024 World Series on Tuesday night. The Yankees hope to avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Dodgers.

Los Angeles Dodgers

First baseman Freddie Freeman is one key player expected to rise to the occasion. He has performed well in the series, hitting 4-for-12 with one triple, three home runs, seven RBIs, and three runs scored.

Throughout 147 regular-season games, Freeman recorded 35 doubles, two triples, 22 home runs, 89 RBI, and 81 runs scored.

Also contributing to the offense is shortstop Mookie Betts. He has gone 3-for-11 in the series, highlighted by a 2-for-4 outing with one run scored during the 4-2 victory in Game 2.

Throughout the regular season, Betts played in 116 games, boasting a .289 average with 24 doubles, five triples, 19 home runs, and 75 runs scored.

He has a strong track record against the Yankees; in 75 career games against them, he’s batting .280 with 29 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, and 59 RBI.

With only three healthy starters, none completely rested, the Dodgers are set to utilize their bullpen again, starting with right-hander Ben Casparius. He has pitched 4.1 innings with two hits allowed, two walks and four strikeouts this postseason.

The team will rely on its offense to take charge to support their pitching staff.

New York Yankees

New York plans to start right-hander Luis Gil (15-7, 3.50 ERA) on the mound. He has yet to earn a decision in the 2024 MLB playoffs, holding a 4.50 ERA.

In Game 4 of the ALCS, he contributed to an 8-6 victory for the Yankees, pitching four innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and three walks while striking out three.

During the regular season, Gil faced the Dodgers and recorded a no-decision. Over 5.2 innings, he surrendered five hits, three earned runs, one walk, and racked up five strikeouts.

Giancarlo Stanton, the designated hitter, stands out as one of New York’s premier hitters in the series. He is enjoying a six-game hitting streak and went 2-for-4 with a double in Monday’s matchup against the Dodgers.

Over 12 postseason games, he boasts a .298 batting average with three doubles, six home runs, 14 RBIs, and seven runs batted in.

In his 16 career appearances against the Dodgers, Stanton has recorded seven doubles, five home runs, and 16 RBI.

Dodgers-Yankees Best Bet

This series has been dominated by the Dodgers. Once Freeman hit that walk-off grand slam in the first game, everything has gone their way.

Somehow the Yankees are favored in this matchup, but the way they’ve played I don’t want anything to do with them. Sweeping any team is difficult and the closeout game is often the most difficult to win.

The Total is what I’m targeting in this matchup. Oddsmakers have set a total of 8.5 runs for this one and I’m not too convinced by the pitching matchup.

I’ll take Over 8.5 runs at -105 odds at BetMGM as the best bet in this one.
