When No. 9 Ole Miss visits No. 13 LSU in Baton Rouge, it will mark the 113th meeting between the two former SEC West foes. LSU currently leads the series with a 65-42-4 advantage. This game is certain to have implications on the SEC title race.

Ole Miss

In the SEC title race, Ole Miss must secure a win in a difficult environment, especially after suffering a home loss to Kentucky on Sept. 28.

With upcoming games against Oklahoma and Georgia in the next month, a second conference loss at this stage of the SEC schedule would make the path to the SEC Championship game much more challenging for the Rebels.

Lane Kiffin sees this as a significant moment for his career at Ole Miss.

Since coming to Oxford, Mississippi, Kiffin has amassed 39 wins, and a win on Saturday could make him the fastest coach to reach 40 wins in Ole Miss program history.

They have never advanced to the SEC Championship Game, so this presents a unique opportunity for the Rebels to achieve something they have never accomplished before.

The Rebels’ defense is excelling in multiple areas, ranking first among all FBS teams in rushing defense (allowing only 63.7 yards per game), sacks (24), tackles for loss (63), and is tied with Texas for allowing only three offensive touchdowns this season.

Ole Miss will pose a difficult challenge to LSU’s scoring streak. They are allowing the third-fewest points in the country (7.5 per game).

The Rebels boasts star quarterback Jaxson Dart and top wide receiver Tre Harris. The Rebels rank No. 2 nationally in total offense, averaging 576.8 yards per game.

They also rank No. 2 in passing offense, with 372.8 yards per game, and No. 2 in yards per play, averaging 8.11.

Dart is second in the nation with at 2,100 passing yards. Facing a high-powered offense can put a lot of pressure on a defense, but Ole Miss is currently leading the nation in point differential (+219) and yardage differential (+1,856).

LSU

This matchup between one-loss teams in Ole Miss and LSU feels like an elimination game, even though it’s still early in conference play and the 12-team playoff picture is uncertain.

LSU also has some significant SEC showdowns ahead, particularly against Texas A&M on October 26 and Alabama on November 9. The team remains undefeated in conference play and has secured four straight wins following its opening-game loss to USC.

This should be a favorable situation for the Tigers, who are coming off a bye week to face a Rebels team playing their seventh consecutive game of the season, including challenging matchups against SEC opponents in the past two weeks.

LSU’s home games under the lights have always been known for their fantastic atmosphere and an elite home-field advantage in college football.

Since Brian Kelly took over, the team has maintained an impressive 12-0 record in Saturday night games. Kelly holds a remarkable 16-1 record at home against all opponents, regardless of kickoff times.

This tradition of dominance extends beyond Kelly. LSU has an outstanding 108-15 record in night games at Tiger Stadium since 2000, spanning multiple coaching regimes and national championship victories.

LSU’s strength lies in its passing game, led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. This could prove to be a significant challenge for Ole Miss’s vulnerable secondary.

The Tigers’ offense has been on fire, scoring 34 or more points in their last four games, all of which resulted in wins.

Rebels-Tigers Best Bet

The Magnolia Bowl as it’s deemed should be another great matchup on this College Football Saturday. Both of these offenses have performed tremendously well this season.

We are in for some fireworks tonight at Tiger Stadium, the added rest for LSU should be a benefit to them. However, the Rebels offense can put up points with any team in the country.

The total in this one has climbed all the way to 64 points at most sportsbooks.

Although, that high total is tempting to fade, LSU being at home getting points will be the play. Three points is a key number and oddsmakers are giving the Tigers 3.5, that’s too many to pass up.

The best bet in this one will be Tigers +3.5 points at -110 odds.
