Caio Borralho Must Be Taken Serious

As the Middleweight division is continuing to shift, it looks like there will be a new contender emerging in the division. An undefeated striker hailing from Brazil is eager to throw his name in the contender hat. That force name is Caio Borralho and he put a beating on a former title challenger this past weekend in Jared Cannonier in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Caio Borralho is now 7-0 in the UFC and is a top 5 fighter in the division. He certainly feels like this is his time which could lead to a title shot soon with another performance like he put on.

I’ve been having amazing performances in the UFC for a long time, and it’s never been an easy road,” Borralho said. “All of my opponents were tough, and I think they all brought out the best of me in this cage and made me the athlete that I am. … I am the new face of the division. On Tuesday, I want to see my name ranked in the top five.”

All three judges scored the fight for Borralho: 49-45, 49-45 and 48-46. It was a convincing victory for the Brazilian, but it wasn’t an easy one. Cannonier, who turned 40 this year, hurt Borralho multiple times. He shot a stiff right hand through Borralho’s guard in the fourth, opening a cut under his right eye. Despite Cannonier’s efforts it just wasn’t enough for him to pull off the upset. Leaving him at a career crossroads at this point after dropping his second straight loss.

He’s getting closer

Without a doubt Borralho is rising in the middleweight division. But there’s some real bangers in that division that could really hurt him. He’s proven that he’s tough and can overcome adversity but will that still be the case when he’s fighting the top fighters in the division. One thing for certain is that he could hurt anybody in the division as well. Continued performances like last week we’ll get these questions answered sooner than later.
