The series between the Oakland Athletics and New York Mets kicked off Tuesday night. The Athletics are eager for a different outcome this time, as they have faced several losses against the Mets in their previous meetings.

Oakland Athletics

Despite a challenging season, the Athletics’ current record stands at 50-69, surpassing some expectations.

They currently rank as the second-worst team in the American League but have the potential to rise from the bottom of the AL West if the Los Angeles Angels’ performance falters.

On the other hand, the Mets are still in the running for a playoff spot, trailing the Atlanta Braves by just one game for the final wildcard position.

It’s tough to come out on top in games when your team can’t seem to score any runs.

The Mets had a rough time in their last series against the Seattle Mariners, getting swept and losing by a total score of 22-1 over three games. It was a brutal series that took a toll on their offense’s confidence.

The Athletics have also been struggling to win games recently due to their poor offensive performance. However, they can play against the Mets in an upcoming series, which might allow them to regain their footing.

New York Mets

It’s crucial for the Mets to address their offensive struggles and remain in contention for the National League wild-card spot.

Despite only scoring one run in three games against the Mariners, they have managed to stay just one game out of the race.

However, the Mets risk falling behind with numerous teams vying for the spot. David Peterson’s consistent performances, allowing two or fewer earned runs in four of his last five starts, provide hope for the Mets to secure a win in the upcoming game.

The Mets need to overcome the Athletics’ lackluster offense and secure a couple of victories at home.

A’s-Mets Best Bet

Recently, the Athletics and Mets have struggled offensively, ranking among the worst teams in scoring over the past ten games. The Athletics have averaged 2.8 runs per nine innings, while the Mets have managed a 3.5 mark.

Their bullpens don’t stand out as the league’s best, but they share an identical 3.54 ERA this season. Additionally, their starting pitchers have given up more than two earned runs in just one of their last five starts.

Only three of the past ten Athletics games have exceeded the total score, potentially favoring the under for this particular game.

Meanwhile, the Mets’ scoring record is even more striking, with just one of their last ten games going over the total.

In a recent three-game series against the Seattle Mariners, the Mets scored only one run and have shown little improvement offensively.

However, I’m still picking the Mets to come out on top in this one.

Will the A’s upset the slumping Mets?
