The Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 4:07 PM EST.

River Ryan (ERA: 0.82) will start for the Dodgers, while Osvaldo Bido (ERA: 5.00) will pitch for the Athletics.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers lead the NL West with a 64-47 record, 4.5 games ahead of the Padres. On the road, the Dodgers are 30-27 this season and have a 21-18 record against NL West opponents.

As the favorite, the Dodgers have performed well, with a 60-37 record overall and 27-17 on the road. However, they have struggled as underdogs with a 4-10 record.

This season, the Dodgers are looking to even their series with the Athletics, which they currently hold a 20-16-1 record in.

Betting on the Dodgers’ run line has been unpredictable this season. They have a 54-57 overall record and 29-28 on the road. Their average run margin for the season is +0.9, slightly lower at +0.8 at home.

They are 48-49 against the run line as favorites and 6-8 as underdogs.

The over/under line for today’s game is set at 9 runs, matching the Dodgers’ combined run average for the season. The Dodgers have a 59-52 over/under record this year, with an average over/under line of 9 runs.

When the line is set at 9 runs, they have an 8-6 over/under record. Notably, 16.2% of their games have had lines set at 9 runs, with 71.2% of their games featuring lines below 9 runs. The over has hit in their last four games.

River Ryan is starting for the Dodgers today after a strong performance in his first start of the season. He struck out eight Astros hitters over 5 2/3 innings, giving up two home runs but only allowing two hits.

Shohei Ohtani continues to be a standout power hitter. He entered the game with 33 home runs, second in the MLB. Ohtani is batting .309 with 79 RBIs and has hit three homers in his last 10 games, batting .275.

Gavin Lux has also been impressive, going 12-for-30 in his last 10 games.

The Dodgers rank 4th in scoring with 4.9 runs per game and have the league’s top on-base percentage.

They are 3rd in home runs and perform well both at home and on the road. Chris Taylor and Gavin Lux are currently on hitting streaks, with Lux’s streak at eight games.

Oakland Athletics

This season, the Oakland Athletics hold a 46-66 record, sitting 13 games behind the Mariners in the AL West.

They have a 16-20 record in divisional games and currently occupy 5th place in the division, trailing the Angels by 2.5 games for 4th place.

As favorites, the Athletics have performed well with a 9-3 record, but their resilience as underdogs truly stands out. Despite a 37-63 record, they have shown their mettle at home, with an 18-25 record.

Overall, the Athletics have a series record of 13-20-2 and are currently tied with the Dodgers in their series. They have won 6 of their last 10 games, a testament to their ability to bounce back.

When the Athletics win, they do so by an average margin of 3.6 runs per game, and in losses, they also have an average deficit of 3.6 runs per game.

The A’s have a run line record of 59-53 and are 30-25 against the run line at home. As underdogs, they are 54-46 against the run line, while as favorites, they are 5-7.

Today, the Athletics face the Los Angeles Dodgers at home, with the over/under line set at 9 runs. This season, the Athletics’ combined run average is 8.9 runs per game, and their over/under record is 52-58.

When the over/under line is set at 9 runs, their record is 9-6-1. The over has hit in their last two games.

Osvaldo Bido will start for the Athletics. Bido has made three starts and nine appearances this season, holding a 2-2 record and a 5.00 ERA. In his last outing, he gave up seven earned runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Angels.

Before that, he had back-to-back wins. Bido’s WHIP is 1.37, and opponents are batting .214 against him. He averages 9.33 strikeouts and 5 walks per nine innings.

The Athletics are batting .231 as a team, ranking 19th in the league. They are 4th in home runs with 145 and average 4.1 runs per game, improving slightly to 4.5 runs per game at home.

However, their team on-base percentage of .301 is also 19th in the league.

Brent Rooker has been a standout for the Athletics, batting .290 with a team-leading 27 home runs and 79 RBIs. Recently, he has gone 4/18 in his last five games, with two home runs.

Catcher Shea Langeliers is second on the team with 21 homers but has a .212 batting average. Miguel Andujar and JJ Bleday are both on decent hitting streaks for the Athletics.

Dodgers-A’s Best Bet

I believe the Dodgers are the team to go for. River Ryan has delivered two impressive performances for LA, and I see no reason he wouldn’t continue performing well against the A’s.

The Dodgers showed their hitting prowess last night, and I anticipate they will carry that momentum into Sunday. It looks like it’s going to be all LA once again.

Take the Dodgers on the moneyline in this one.

Can the A’s defeat the slumping Dodgers?
