It’s not easy making it in the WNBA as a rookie drafted in the second round. From the past draft, there will only be four rookies drafted in the second round that makes a WNBA roster. Half of those four will be wearing a Aces uniform in Kate Martin and Dyaisha Fair.

Tough odds
The WNBA allowed teams to have 18 players in camp this year for the first time. With only 12 teams and a maximum of 144 roster spots, the WNBA is one of the hardest leagues to make in all sports. Those numbers will increase next year with Golden State and Toronto starting in 2026.

“I found out a few days ago and I cried,” Martin said. “I was so excited, I felt like a lot of hard work was paying off. Whenever you come into a team like this who are back-to-back world champions, you don’t really know what your odds are going to be. I was really proud of myself and really happy that I gave myself the opportunity to make the team and be alongside some great teammates.”
