The Vegas Golden Knights signed Noah Hanifin to an 8-year, $58.8 million contract extension on Friday (April 12).

The 27-year-old would’ve been an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but he is now under contract through the 2031-32 season.

It’s the type of deal the Vegas Golden Knights were hoping to reach when they traded for him on March 6 — and it comes with a six-year, full no-trade clause.

Here’s a breakdown of the extension, according to Pierre LeBrun:

2024-25: $1 million base salary; $8.5 million signing bonus

2025-26: $1.6 million base salary; $7.9 million signing bonus

2026-27: $2 million base salary; $7.5 million signing bonus

2027-28: $2 million base salary; $5.5 million signing bonus

2028-29: $5.7 million base salary

2029-30: $5.7 million base salary

2030-31: $5.7 million base salary

2031-32: $5.7 million base salary

Hanifin’s average annual value (AAV) of $7,350,000 makes him the second-highest-paid defenseman on the team — behind Alex Pietrangelo ($8.8 million) — and the 25th-highest-paid defenseman in the NHL.

The smooth-skating defenseman has two goals, nine assists, and 11 points in 17 games with Vegas — bringing his season total to 13 goals, 33 assists, and 46 points in 78 games.

“It’s just an awesome culture, and they want to win. The guys push each other and as an athlete, that’s something you want to be a part of, so it was a no-brainer for me,” Noah Hanifin said on Friday.

Looks like Pietrangelo has found himself a new long-term partner.
