While the Alexander Hernandez-Damon Jackson fight has two sides that hate each other, this fight is the complete opposite. Charriere has absolute respect for Chepe Mariscal, who has the potential to be a worthy opponent.
How so? For one, “Machine Gun” is tough to take down. With a 100% takedown defense, it’ll make life harder for Charriere to grapple Mariscal. Therefore, grounding and pounding will become a chore.
He also takes plenty of punishment, absorbing 3.95 significant strikes a minute. Mariscal has a durable body, which makes him suited for the long run. Thus, Charriere must rely heavily on his striking and not go to the ground. Otherwise, it’ll be all Chepe Mariscal.
The verdict
Personally, I like Morgan Charriere’s story. He started his MMA career at a time when France was just getting into the swing of the sport. Now, it seems that the French superstar is becoming the UFC ambassador for his home country.
That’s why I can see him pulling off the victory. Although Chepe Mariscal is a durable, defensive fighter, Charriere knows how to get his opponents on the ground. However, this is a fight where he must incorporate some grappling to take his strikes to the next level. That way, he can throw more punches and win.
