Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis Fight Date In Peril

Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ long-anticipated rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. is once again in limbo, as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) scrambles to find a new date. Originally targeted for August 16 in Las Vegas, the WBA lightweight title rematch now appears to be tentatively shifting toward August 23 or August 30 and even those dates remain uncertain.

Davis’ June 15 alleged domestic assault and his arrest this past Friday have significantly clouded his immediate future. His legal troubles could affect licensing and logistics for any upcoming fight. Training Disruption. Reports indicate Davis stopped training for nearly three weeks before his arrest. That alone would be cause for concern regarding conditioning and preparedness even without the legal cloud hanging overhead.

His status remains highly unstable. Even if he’s legally allowed to fight, the lack of training and recent distractions make it questionable whether he’d be ready to headline a major event next month.

Lamont Roach Jr. has been quietly preparing for what could be the most lucrative and visible fight of his career. The delays only prolong the uncertainty and possibly give him more leverage depending on how things unfold with Davis. Unless there’s swift resolution on the legal side and assurance that Davis can return to focused training, there’s a real chance this rematch won’t happen in August at all and possibly not this year.

Motivated to fight

With the fact that it’s been revealed that Tank hasn’t been training. Raises questions to the point where if he is actually even serious about this fight because with the fight not being officially agreed upon this fight could indeed be facing a further delay then fight fans anticipated. Some fans have even went as far as saying that Tank is actually scared to fight him again. Which is questionable considering that they have fought previously before and they have a history in amateurs of fighting each other. So that’s questionable.
