Tonight, the Cleveland Guardians head to Sacramento to play the Athletics at Sutter Health Park.
Tanner Bibee will pitch for the Guardians. Despite his 4-6 record and 4.0 ERA, he averages over eight strikeouts per game and has shown potential. The Guardians have been solid lately, going 4-1 against the spread in their last five games.
On the other hand, the Athletics will send Jeffrey Springs to the mound. His 5-5 record comes with an inflated 5.6 ERA, and while he averages 7.9 strikeouts, he lacks consistency.
Both teams have struggled offensively, with the Guardians averaging just 3.8 runs per game and a batting average of .226. Still, the Guardians can pull through against Springs, especially since they’re favored at -120 on the money line.
The Athletics, however, have been scoring better lately, averaging over four runs per game and boasting a .250 batting average.
Given that both lineups are due for breakout performances against shaky pitching, I’m leaning toward an over bet on the total set at nine runs.
In summary, I’m backing the Guardians for a win while expecting enough runs to exceed the total. I’ll take the Guardians to win a high-scoring game tonight.
