The sixth-seeded Detroit Pistons will play the third-seeded New York Knicks in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round series on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks currently lead the series 1-0, and the game will tip off at 4:30 p.m. PST.
During the regular season, the Pistons had the upper hand, winning the series matchup 3-1. In Game 1 on Saturday, the Knicks secured a 123-112 victory, covering the spread as 7-point favorites and hitting the Over at 221.5.
Jalen Brunson starred for New York, scoring 34 points, while Cam Payne contributed 11 of his 14 points during a critical fourth quarter, during which the Knicks went on a 21-0 run.
Despite holding an 84.1% chance of winning with a 98-90 lead and 9:16 left to play, the Pistons couldn’t hold on. Tobias Harris led Detroit with 25 points, and Cade Cunningham added a double-double with 21 points and 12 assists.
In the regular season, the Pistons had a solid performance against the Knicks, going 3-1 against the spread (ATS) with the Over also landing in three of those games.
However, Detroit has struggled recently, going just 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games, missing the mark by an average of 7.1 points.
They started the season strong with a 9-5-1 ATS record through 15 games but have since dipped to 5-12 ATS in their last 17 outings.
On the other hand, New York has consistently performed at the betting line, covering the spread in 10 of their last 14 games.
The Knicks have also performed well as home favorites this season, boasting a 21-16-1 ATS record. Against a young and unpredictable Pistons team, the likelihood of a lackluster showing seems low for New York.
