South Carolina and UConn meeting in the national championship game has been two years in the making.
In 2022, the South Carolina Gamecocks became the first team to beat coach Gina Auriemma in a national championship game.
This year, the tables have turned.
On Sunday, Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies crushed the Gamecocks, 82-59 to earn their record 12th national championship in school history.
It was definitely pay back for the UConn Huskies.
As it seemed as if the entire sports world reacted to the beatdown, former Gamecock and reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson broker her silence.
Needless to say, Wilson did not mince her words.
She responded to a playful post from teammate Kiah Stokes on Threads.
Wison wrote, “I know Kiah loves me so I’m not worried ???? UConn big three was eating all tourney ???????? congrats to the huskies.”
It was immediately after game. It was real, raw, and an honest observation of how dominant the Huskies were throughout the entirety of the NCAA Tournament.
South Carolina just couldn’t come up with an answer to the strength of UConn. Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, and freshman Sarah Strong were on another level all tournament long.
Wilson then followed up on Threads with encouragement for Bueckers, writing, “Paige’s journey is truly special!” she posted, giving flowers to the Huskies’ leader who had battled back from injury and setbacks. Then came the closerby W “and e’YEA forever loving the cocks over here!! Great season! ????????”
