Yahoosports.com is reporting that coach UNLV head coach Barry Odom is moving on to be the Purdue Boilermakers next head coach.
The UNLV Rebels have earned back-to-back bowl berths and won 19 games in two seasons under Odom.
Odom’s success at UNLV has led him to Power 5 school.
Various sources have told Yahoo Sports reporter Ross Dellenger that Odom will coach the Boilermakers next season. The Rebels are 10-3 this season. Coach Odom will be replacing Ryan Walters who was let go after going 5-19. The Boilermakers an abysmal 1-11 record this season.
In two seasons under coach Odom, the Rebels only lost nine games total.
Before taking over with the Rebels, Odom’s previous stop was the defensive coordinator with the Arkansas Razorbacks, and before that, the Missouri Tigers for four years.
In his time with Missouri, he was 4-8 in his initial season, but he did manage to guide the Tigers to three bowl games. In Odom’s last season at Missouri, they went 6-6.
With Odom heading to the Boilermakers, he will have the responsibility of trying to rebuild a football program that has traditionally been pretty good. The Boilermakers were one of the worst football teams in any power conference this season.
With this news of Odom’s departure to Purdue, it will be interesting to see who the Rebels tap as their next head coach.
