OPINION: Why The Raiders Will Fire Antonio Pierce Before Playoffs

There’s a big possibility that the Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce will be ousted before the end of the season.

The Las Vegas Raiders went from the possibility of a chance to sniff the playoffs last season, to an abysmal 2-10 record. One would think that this does not look good for Pierce.

The Raiders aren’t exactly known for their patience when it comes to head coaches. They fired former head coach Lane Kiffin at the beginning of the season a few years ago when the team got off to a rough start.

You have to think that Pierce is trending on thin ice with the team, especially after today.

After a disastrous finish and some confusion on play calling (i.e. not challenging a call for ball placement which would have given the Raiders some kind of leverage in a tight game like that one) against the Kansas City Chiefs, some around the league suspect that ‘Black Monday’ will come a little sooner for Antonio Pierce.

As if making big, costly mistakes in a primetime televised game wasn’t enough to give the Raiders organization cause to let go of Pierce, then what is?

It also didn’t help that he even called his own team “the worst team” in the league. I’m sure that didn’t sit well with the front office either.

Seemingly, the experiment with interim coaches becoming permanent rarely works out in the NFL.

You almost have to feel bad for the guy. He wasn’t exactly given the best talent to work with and it hasn’t been a picnic for him or the Raiders. He has had to deal with a boatload of injuries and the trade of his best player to the New York Jets, Davante Adams.

It’s not that Antonio Pierce doesn’t know football and he’s some novice, he’s been around the game a long time. His lack of head coaching experience may not be what the Raiders need right now, especially while they are in rebuilding mode.

But you have to wonder after today’s performance if this was Antonio Pierce’s last game.
