Three Takeaways from Lady Rebels Dominating Bounce Back Win

The UNLV Lady Rebels bounce back by dominating 71-52 over the UCF Knights. The win brings the Lady Rebels to 5-2. The Knights fall to 6-1.

A Big Game for McKinna Brackens

Sophomore forward McKinna Brackens lead the Lady Rebels in the win with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing down a whopping 14 rebounds. Brackens shot 3-for-3 from the three-point line. After the game, McKinna said, “It felt to finally really good, because we’ve been falling short, Arizona, all these Big 12 teams, the power 4 schools. So, it felt good to finally get one under our belt and play hard through it.”

Consistency

The Lady Rebels also crashed the boards, outpacing UCF 45-40 in rebounds. They went 66.7% from the free-throw line. From  three-point land, as team they were 46.7% and they shot 50.0% from the field. The Lady Rebels were able to score 11 points off of turnovers. They scored 36 of their 71 points in the paint. The starting five stuck together as a unit by putting pressure on UCF, every shot was contested.

Team Confidence

In the post-game wrap up, assistant coach Mia Bell said, “We want to play at an extremely high level, we have the team to do so, we have all that we need at UNLV, so we put ourselves in positions to go against some of the best teams in the country. You have to be ready to play…I thought our team responded the way we needed them to respond today.”

The Lady Rebels roll on to close out the Thanksgiving Classic against the East Carolina Pirates on Friday, November 29th at 2:30 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
